Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development

The Office of the Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Economic Development assists individual investigators and collaborations for research and is the principal contact with federal, state, and private-sector funding sources. The Office insures the competency of the University research program to potential sponsors.

WVU EPSCoR

The WVU EPSCoR program provides foundation support enabling the research of crosscutting faculty groups and providing key instrumentation and

equipment. The program also provides support for the collaboration between West Virginia University and Marshall University in the area of molecular/life sciences.

The WVU Office of Research Compliance

The Office of Research Compliance is committed to helping faculty, staff, and students comply with all applicable federal, state, and institutional requirements and policies. Research compliance areas covered by this office include Human Subjects Protections, Animal Welfare, Biosafety and Conflict of Interest.

The Office of Sponsored Programs

The Office of Sponsored Programs provides support to WVU principle investigators in the acquisition and administration of externally funded projects for research, teaching and service. OSP reviews, negotiates, accepts, and initiates awards on behalf of the University and the WVU Research Corporation.

WVU Office of Technology Transfer

The WVU Office of Technology Transfer coordinates policies and provides forms and other useful information related to Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer activities at WVU. The office exists to help faculty deal with commercialization issues and to help entrepreneurs create new products based on the inventions and creations of WVU personnel.

WVU Business Incubator

The mission of the WVU Business Incubator is to promote economic development by supporting entrepreneurs, advancing entrepreneurial activities and nurturing early-stage businesses with space, facilities and support services.

WVU Research Park

The WVU Research Park was created to capitalize on the University’s rapid emergence as a research organization focused on driving knowledge-based economic development and advancing technology transfer and commercialization of its inventions.

WVURC Human Resources Office

The WVURC Human Resources Office supports research infrastructure and economic development opportunities at WVU by providing flexible, responsive recruitment and employment services for its sponsored activities.

Office of Federal Relations

The Office of Federal Relations coordinates communication between WVU reseachers/administrators and representatives of federal agencies and Congressional Offices.

WVURC Office of Communications

The Office of Communications assists in the dissemination of information about WVU research results by working with the news media, appropriate WVU research departments, and Research Corporation administrators.

National Research Center for Coal and Energy

The National Research Center for Coal and Energy (NRCCE) advances ideas about energy and the environment through the conduct of research, technology transfer, and information dissemination activities.

Forensic Science Initiative

The Forensic Science Initiative WVU provides research and resources to the nation’s forensic science laboratories. The FSI at WVU currently has 15 faculty performing research in the forensic sciences on more than 30 active projects.

Regional Research Institute

The Regional Research Institute creates learning opportunities and provides research support for faculty members and students, while serving as an internationally prominent center for the advancement of regional science. The Institute sponsors scholarly seminars and workshops and provides seed grants to tenured and tenure track WVU faculty with interests in any aspect of regional research and analysis.

WVNano

WVU is the founder and technical lead of the WVNano Initiative, the State of West Virginia’s focal point for nanoscale science, engineering and education research, workforce development, and economic development.

WVU School of Medicine Research and Graduate Education

WVU believes that the best graduate training occurs in a strong, dynamic research environment. The WVU School of Medicine faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and students are committed to excellence in research and graduate education.

Bureau of Business and Economic Research – Research and Analysis for Decision-Makers

The Bureau provides the West Virginia decision makers with economic forecasts, applied research, and information on economic, demographic and business trends in the state and its regional economies. The Bureau’s areas of research expertise include economic development and impact studies, economic forecasting, industry studies, energy and environmental policy, benchmarking, labor market, public finance, international, and tourism.

West Virginia Space Grant Consortium

WVSGC is a group of West Virginia academic institutions with industrial partners under the sponsorship of NASA. WVSGC focus on research, collaborations with High-Tech industries,student fellowships, K-12 and public outreach and dedicated to building research infrastructure and the promotion of Math, Science, Engineering and Technology education in West Virginia.
