
David Satterfield
David Satterfield is currently the interim associate vice president overseeing the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, Regional Research Institute, Water Research Institute, and Institute of Sustainability and Energy Research.
Satterfield also retains his existing position as director of asset development, a role in which he will continue building partnerships with the West Virginia business community and the defense and energy sectors.
David Satterfield served as the Executive Director of the West Virginia Development Office from October 2001 through January 2005. Prior to joining the Development Office Mr. Satterfield served as the Chief of Staff and Vice President for Institutional Advancement at West Virginia University. In this capacity he functioned as chief advisor to the University president, as West Virginia University’s primary government relations executive, and coordinated the internal administration strategies of the institution.
When Governor Bob Wise was elected, in November 2000, Satterfield served as director of the transition team. He continued this service until the inauguration in January 2001, at which time he became the Chief of Staff to the Governor until May 2001 when he returned to his post at the University.
Satterfield is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned two music degrees (BM and MM) from WVU and joined the College of Creative Arts at WVU as a faculty member in 1983 and remains a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Music.
